About us
The Royal Gardening Society of Norway
Embrace sustainable gardening
The Royal Gardening Society of Norway is an environmental organization dedicated to promoting sustainable gardening, biodiversity, and nature conservation. Through programs, partnerships, and community initiatives, we encourage individuals, schools, institutions, and organizations to care for gardens and green spaces while strengthening the connection between people and nature. Our work combines tradition with innovation, promoting practical solutions that support healthy ecosystems.
Kongedugnad – A National School Initiative
Kongedugnad is a national initiative designed for schools across Norway. The program encourages schools to develop and care for gardens and outdoor learning spaces while sharing knowledge, experiences, and inspiration with other participating schools.
Through Kongedugnad, schools receive support, visibility, and access to educational resources that strengthen outdoor learning and environmental awareness among students.
By connecting schools through a shared initiative, Kongedugnad helps build a growing network of educators and pupils working together to promote biodiversity, sustainability, and respect for nature.
The Oslo Green Belt Vision
The Oslo Green Belt is an environmental network connecting gardens, schools, institutions, and green initiatives across the Oslo region. The project encourages collaboration between communities, organizations, and local partners to strengthen biodiversity, improve urban green spaces, and promote sustainable gardening practices.
By connecting initiatives under a shared vision, the Oslo Green Belt helps build a stronger culture of environmental responsibility in the capital region.
The Royal Gardens
Alongside Kongedugnad, we developed The Royal Gardens Program to reflect our long-term vision for sustainable and biodiverse landscapes. Through the Royal Garden Certification, gardens and institutions are encouraged to adopt sustainable gardening practices, promote biodiversity, and apply environmentally responsible methods in the care and management of green spaces.
The program places particular emphasis on the use of electric and non-fossil technologies, organic fertilization, and the complete rejection of chemical products in gardening practices.
Our Work
A Platform for Learning, Sharing and Innovation
The Royal Gardening Society of Norway develops initiatives that promote learning, collaboration, and innovation in sustainable gardening. Through educational resources, environmental programs, and partnerships with institutions and communities, we support practical solutions that protect biodiversity and strengthen green spaces.
Certification and Support
One of our key responsibilities is assessing and certifying gardens and landscapes that adopt sustainable gardening practices. Through the Royal Gardens Certification, we support the promotion of biodiversity, responsible land care, and environmentally conscious garden management.
The Royal Gardens Certification is guided by several core principles, including the use of electric and non-fossil technologies in garden maintenance, the careful selection of appropriate plant species, the use of organic fertilizers, and the complete rejection of chemical products in gardening practices.
By highlighting these examples, the Royal Gardens Program encourages the wider adoption of sustainable gardening and responsible care of green spaces.
Looking Ahead
The Royal Gardening Society of Norway continues to expand its initiatives through projects such as Kongedugnad, the Royal Gardens Program, and the Oslo Green Belt. By working with schools, institutions, organizations, and communities throughout the country, we aim to strengthen environmental awareness and promote responsible care for gardens and natural landscapes.
Join Us
Whether through the Kongedugnad, the Royal Gardens Program, the Oslo Green Belt, or our educational initiatives, everyone can take part in strengthening biodiversity and caring for nature. Together we can help ensure that future generations grow up in a greener and more sustainable environment.
