The Royal Gardening Society of Norway is pleased to announce the participation of the Embassy of Mexico in Oslo in the Royal Gardens Program, an initiative dedicated to promoting the sustainable care and management of institutional gardens and green spaces.

The collaboration was formally established on 20 January 2026, when the Embassy of Mexico joined the Royal Gardens Pilot Program. Through this partnership, the Embassy becomes one of the first diplomatic institutions in Oslo to take part in a program designed to combine professional garden management with environmentally responsible practices that support biodiversity and natural conservation. This reflects a long-term commitment to the ecological balance of urban ecosystems.

The Royal Gardens Program

The Royal Gardens Program was developed by The Royal Gardening Society of Norway to support institutions and companies that value sustainability, environmental responsibility, and continuity in the care of their outdoor environments.

Participating gardens are maintained according to high environmental standards, demonstrating a shared commitment to responsible management of green spaces within the urban landscape. The program promotes practices that strengthen biodiversity while maintaining the aesthetic and cultural value of institutional gardens.

Each participating institution is formally recognized through the Royal Gardens Certification, acknowledging its commitment to sustainable garden management and environmental responsibility.

Contributing to the Oslo Green Belt

The participation of the Embassy of Mexico also contributes to the emerging Oslo Green Belt, a growing network of companies, institutions, embassies, and schools across the city participating in initiatives developed by The Royal Gardening Society of Norway.

While Oslo is internationally recognized for the protected forest belt that surrounds the city, the Oslo Green Belt focuses on strengthening sustainable management of corporate, institutional, and educational green spaces within the urban fabric itself. Through this network, participating organizations collectively contribute to enhancing the quality, sustainability, and visibility of green environments throughout the city.

As more institutions and companies join the Royal Gardens Program, and more schools participate in Kongedugnad, the national initiative for children, schools, and families developed by The Royal Gardening Society of Norway, the Oslo Green Belt continues to take shape as a collaborative framework connecting diplomacy, education, business, and environmental responsibility.

An Open Invitation to Institutions, Companies, and Schools

The Royal Gardening Society of Norway welcomes interest from embassies, institutions, companies, and schools in Oslo that wish to take part in this growing initiative.

Institutions and companies may participate through the Royal Gardens Program, while schools may join through Kongedugnad, helping to expand a city-wide network committed to the sustainable care of green spaces.

Together, these initiatives form the foundations of the Oslo Green Belt, strengthening the connection between institutions, communities, businesses, and nature within the Norwegian capital.
